Doug up on Bourke

Doug up on Bourke is an incredible, mind-boggling shop at 901 Bourke Street, Waterloo. It's an enormous cavernous warehouse packed to the rafters with an amazing and constantly changing collection of old furniture, ephemera, collectibles and curios: polished oars, dentists' lights, surgical drawers, stuffed animals, Bakelite telephones, Underwood typewriters, apothecary bottles, tailors' dummies, and all manner of tin signs, lamps and watering cans. So exciting is this shop that I find I have to break my own rules and reproduce all the photos I took today.

  2. Fantastic place and photos. Good to break the rules some times. You might also find the Mitchell Road Auction Centre interesting to explore.

  3. Thanks, elj. There are so many great things in this place that it almost feels like cheating to take pictures: the objects speak for themselves, which makes it very easy to photograph them.

One of my favourite places so far. Thanks for the recommendation; I will definitely take a look.

  4. Nice, Lottie!! Makes me want to get on a plane right now and fly there just to look around that place. It's only a 22 hour flight from here. What do you think?

  5. Thanks Janice! They have a massive selection of interesting things and the stock seems to have changed completely every time I go there. Probably my favourite place in Sydney.

Jump on a plane, why not? See you there!
