Surry Hills Library (completed 2010) is a brand new library and community centre designed by Australian architects Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp, and has been the recipient of numerous awards. It's a beautiful building which follows ecological principles (in their own words, "use of planting together with a thermal labyrinth for passive filtering and tempering of air; incorporation of extensive natural light; solar-tracking timber louvre systems; automated fabric shading; mixed mode ventilation; extensive photovoltaic array; geothermal cooling bores; green roof; rainwater collection and recycling; and sustainable material selection"). I wasn't permitted to take photographs inside (council regulations and zealous staff say so), but there was plenty to see on the outside.
Great Photo's Send this to Felix ! I'll have to dig out his email for you . He's studying Arch in Berlin.
